Privacy policy

This policy explains what personal data Causeway Atlas collects, why, and what your rights are. Causeway Atlas is run by Aerys Solution, Groningen, the Netherlands (Chamber of Commerce no. 96237422), which is the controller of your data under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

What we collect on this website

  • Newsletter. If you subscribe, we store your email address and when you subscribed, so we can send the weekly map. Our newsletter provider, beehiiv, processes this data on our behalf. The legal basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time with the unsubscribe link in every email.
  • Contact. If you email us, we keep your message and address to answer it, and delete them when they are no longer needed.
  • Server logs. Our hosting provider keeps short-lived technical logs (such as IP address and browser type) to run and secure the site.

Cookies

This website does not place advertising or tracking cookies. If we add privacy-friendly visitor statistics, we will update this policy before doing so. Videos on our article pages load from YouTube (in its privacy-enhanced mode) only after you press play; until then we show a still image and YouTube sets no cookies. Once you press play, YouTube's own privacy policy applies.

YouTube API Services

We use YouTube API Services to publish videos to our own YouTube channel, to manage their details, and to read statistics about our own channel. By using features of Causeway Atlas that rely on these services, you agree to be bound by the YouTube Terms of Service. Google's handling of data is described in the Google Privacy Policy.

  • What we access. Only data about our own channel and its videos: video details, upload status and aggregated statistics such as views and watch time. We do not use the YouTube API to collect personal data about viewers.
  • How we use and share it. To publish our videos and to learn which topics and formats work. We do not sell or share this data with third parties.
  • Storage. We keep API data only as long as needed for these purposes and refresh or delete stored statistics at least every 30 days. Deleting data on our side does not affect data stored by YouTube.
  • Revoking access. Anyone who has authorised an application to access their Google account can revoke that access at any time on Google's security settings page.

Who receives your data

Only the service providers we need to run Causeway Atlas: our hosting provider and our newsletter provider. Some of them may process data outside the European Economic Area; where they do, they rely on the safeguards the GDPR requires, such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, and to receive it in a portable format. We answer within one month, and delete data within 7 days of a valid deletion request. Email hello@causewayatlas.com. You can also complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.

Changes

If we change how we use personal data, we update this page and the date at the top. Material changes to how we use data from YouTube API Services will be announced before they take effect.
